Domovoy
Also known as: domovoy, domovoi, domovoys, zhirovik, domovik
The Russian house spirit, keeper of the hearth and of the household's welfare, who guards the master's goods.
The domovoy is the house spirit, the representative of the hearth and of the family's welfare. He guards the master's goods, and witches are said to fear him. One of his names is zhirovik, from zhir, "plenty", as the keeper of domestic happiness and husbandry. Afanasyev wrote of him at length in volume II.
