Samovila

The Bulgarian form of the vila, a winged maiden of the mountains and clouds, good or evil like the German elves.
The samovilas and samodivas are the Bulgarian vilas. They live in the mountains and in the clouds, by springs and lakes, and like the German elves are divided into good and evil. The Bulgarians even saw the plague as a chuma-samodiva, a samodiva of death.
